Credit broker cloned twice
FCA-authorised, Cardiff-based Tide You Over Ltd of Penygarreg House, Berthllwyd, Pentyrch, Cardiff, CF15 9PP (firm reference number: 674556) helps consumers find payday loans of up to £2,500 from direct lenders.
However, the regulator has now warned that two different clone firms have been using or giving out the authorised broker’s details as part of their tactics to scam people in the UK.
The suspected clone firms were:
- Gem Loans/Jem Loans, which claimed to trade from 493A Caerphilly Road, Rhiwbina Cardiff CF14 4SN and Technology House, Station Road, Alton, Hampshire, GU34 2PZ, operating via www.jemloans.co.uk and gemloans.co.uk. It used the numbers 0161 706 0300, 0292 169 0068, 0161 706 3518 and email addresses [email protected] and [email protected].
- Mr Instant Cash, which claimed to trade from 493 Caerphilly Road, Cardiff, CF14 4SN, operating via www.mrinstantcash.co.uk and using the telephone numbers 020 3129 1509, 020 3129 8110, 020 3239 9248, 020 8035 6527 and 020 3582 7098, and email address [email protected].
In a statement, the FCA said: “This is what we call a 'clone firm'; and fraudsters usually use this tactic when contacting people out of the blue, so you should be especially wary if you have been cold called.
“They may use the name of the genuine firm, the 'firm reference number' we have given the authorised firm or other details.”
FCA-authorised Tide You Over Ltd has no association with any of the clone firms.
It is authorised to offer, promote, or sell services or products in the UK.
The FCA added: “We strongly advise you to only deal with financial firms that are authorised by us, and check the Financial Services Register to ensure they are.
“You should also be aware that if you give money to an unauthorised firm, you will not be covered by the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme if things go wrong.”
