Lytham St Annes has been named the debt consolidation hotspot in the UK, according to analysis by a loan provider.

Research by the Darwin Group into the loan requests made by adults based in the UK also looked at the reasons why people were borrowing, which ranged from funding Christmas to wedding plans, caravans and home improvements.

The community of Lytham St Annes took top spot for debt consolidation, with 53% of all loan requests used for this purpose.

Almost half (48%) of all loan requests in Port Glasgow were used to fund home improvements, while 11% in Haverfordwest were used to fund weddings.

People in other towns used loans for leisure breaks, with Caldicot residents looking to fund holidays (8%), while in Normanton 6% used loans for caravanning.

“While we can see commonality in the lending dispositions in certain towns, our insight shows the dramatic variance in the personal reasons why individuals look to take out a loan.

“While some may wish to consolidate debt, others can be seen to pursue hobbies and business ventures.

“The decisions are never made exclusively on a credit score, but instead by understanding the circumstances behind a loan request and making an intelligent decision based on a number of factors.”
