In the Spotlight with Scott Thorpe of Carolina Capital

We sat down with Scott Thorpe who discusses his new role at Carolina Capital and what the future holds for secured lending...

1) Firstly, congratulations on your new job! What exactly does your new role involve?

Thank you and I would also like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their support from introducers and lenders alike so far.

My role will consist of overseeing all aspects of Carolina Capital’s B2B business, along with looking after all sales activity in the field and at our head office in Altrincham.

2) Can I ask why you left Norton Broker Services?

Firstly I would like to take the opportunity to thank Norton for my time there and wish them all the best for the future, especially the senior management team.

However after four-and-a-half years at the company I felt like I needed a new challenge and Carolina Capital was a company I had admired from afar. Their vision for the future, along with the pedigree of staff employed, made it a no brainer and I looked forward to sharing their vision with you over the coming months.

3) If you had to describe Carolina Capital in five words, what would you say?

Professional, knowledgeable, vibrant, progressive, motivated.

4) If you had to describe yourself in five words, what would you say?

Dynamic, energetic, professional, reliable, winner.

5) What do you do on your weekends off?

I like to go and watch my favourite football team Rotherham United get beaten week-in week-out. If am fortunate enough not to be watching us get beaten, the weekend normally involves spending a lot of time in the pub, with being a single lad.

6) What do you think Carolina Capital will bring to the marketplace?

Quality service and knowledge. All our staff are vastly experienced, which will help us in being able to deal with any IFA/Introducer queries.

We also don’t want to be a 9-5 office and I want all my introducers to be able to know they can contact me any time, night or day, 365 days a year.

Finally we will become more dynamic and progressive and in the coming months you will be able to see our new products launched. We have already expanded into other areas. However, we will always maintain our NO CROSS SELL POLICY to protect our introducers.

7)What is the best thing about your job?

Not sure yet, ask me in six months? Seriously though, I have known the team at Carolina for eight months and the reason I joined the team was their vision for the future and how enthusiastic their staff are. It’s such a pleasure and honour to be working with like-minded people who constantly strive for excellence and want to go the extra mile, for not only the customer but brokers alike.

8) How does Carolina Capital become the number one Packager?

To become the number one packager the key thing is check, check and then check again before sending a case down to a lender. Thankfully Louise Stephens and I have great relationships with our lenders so are able to discuss cases directly with the underwriters before sending cases down which will improve quality and turnaround times, and also remove that awful feeling of a lender requesting further information once a case is down at the lender.

9) How does Carolina Capital become the number one Broker?

The main thing is to give the broker a world class service and this is exactly what I and the team can deliver.

I will also make a guaranteed promise, regardless of where a broker is based. If he/she wants a meeting, support or training then I and the team will always make time to visit our introducers.

10) How do brokers contact you?

For further information regarding how Carolina Capital can help you, please contact Scott Thorpe on 07881 915397 or 0161 9262048, email scottt@carolinacapital.co.uk or why not follow the company on twitter @carolinaloans?
